Junk removal and movers in New Canaan, CT

New Canaan is about 20 minutes north of our shop, up Route 123. It is a town of houses, many on two- and four-acre lots, with a small downtown around Elm Street. Our work here is mostly moving furniture in and out of big homes, cleaning out basements, garages, and outbuildings, hauling debris from renovations, and assembling furniture. Every job gets a price upfront, before anything is carried out.

Homes and buildings in New Canaan

Outside the village, most of New Canaan is zoned for large lots, so houses sit far back from the road on long drives. Ponus Ridge, Oenoke Ridge, and Smith Ridge have big older homes and newer builds with three floors of living space plus a finished basement. Those moves take more carrying than people expect. Closer to downtown and Talmadge Hill there are smaller colonials and some condos within walking distance of the train. The town is also known for its mid-century modern houses, with glass walls and furniture that has to be handled carefully.

Junk removal in New Canaan

The New Canaan Transfer Station is at 139 Lakeview Avenue, and residents need an annual permit to use it. The permit year runs July 1 to June 30, and the fee is lower if you already have a registered private hauler. Construction debris like wood, sheetrock, and roofing is free up to 300 pounds a day, then charged by weight. Contractors have to register with the town before they can drop off. A real renovation cleanup or a full basement goes well past 300 pounds, which is usually when hiring a hauler makes sense.

Moving in and out of New Canaan

A lot of New Canaan moves are big houses going to smaller ones, either in town near the village or out to Norwalk, Stamford, or Westchester. Long driveways, stone walls, and narrow gate openings decide where the truck parks, so describe them when you call. If your new place is a condo near Main Street or Elm Street, check the association rules for move times. Large homes often need furniture taken apart to clear stairs and doorways, and we put it back together at the new place.

New Canaan questions

Our house is set far back on a long gravel drive. Does that change the price?

It can. If the truck can get close to the door, the job goes faster. If it has to stay near the road, the crew carries farther and the job takes longer. Tell us about the drive, any gates, and the turnaround space when you call, and it will be part of the free upfront quote.

Should I use the Lakeview Avenue transfer station or hire someone for a cleanout?

For a carload of small stuff, the transfer station works fine if you have the annual permit. For a basement, an attic, or debris from a renovation, the weight adds up fast and you still have to do all the lifting. We load everything from where it sits and haul it out, so you are not making several trips.

Can you assemble the furniture we ordered for the new house?

Sure. We assemble beds, dressers, desks, shelving, and other flat-pack furniture. If we are moving you, we can do the assembly at the new house the same day or come back on a separate visit. Let us know which pieces you have and roughly how many, so we can plan the time and include it in the quote.
