How we protect your things

Furniture gets wrapped in moving blankets and stretch wrap before it leaves the room. Mattresses go in covers. Beds and tables get taken apart when they will not fit through the door, and we put them back together at the new place.

Before the truck pulls away, we walk the old place with you so nothing gets left in a closet.

Getting an accurate quote

Local moves are usually priced by crew size and time. The biggest things that change the time are stairs, elevator wait, the walk from the door to the truck, and how ready the boxes are when we arrive.

Tell us the size of the place, the floors at both ends and any big items. A short video walkthrough by text works well. We give you the rate and an honest time estimate so the final bill is not a surprise.

Need junk gone too

Moving is when people finally decide the old futon is not coming. Because we also do junk removal, we can haul away what is not making the trip on the same day.

Apartment movers for walk-ups, elevator buildings and tight streets

Most of the moves we do as apartment movers in Norwalk, Stamford and Westchester come down to three things: stairs, elevators and parking. A third floor walk-up takes more time and more care than a ground floor unit, so we plan the crew around it instead of finding out on the day.

In elevator buildings, the elevator is the schedule. Many buildings want the move booked with the super or management office, and some only allow moves during set hours or require padding in the cab. Book your window early and send us the details. We show up inside that window and keep the elevator moving so you do not run over your slot.

Street parking is the other piece. In the Bronx, parts of Westchester and busy blocks in South Norwalk, the truck may not fit right out front. Tell us what the parking looks like at both ends. If the building or town lets you reserve a spot or put out cones, it saves a long carry and real time on the clock.

  • Floor number and whether there is an elevator at each address
  • Elevator booking times and any building move rules
  • Where the truck can park and how far it is to the door
  • Narrow halls, tight turns or a spiral stair we should know about

Senior moving services at the family's pace

Senior moves are usually about downsizing. A house full of 40 years of furniture is going into a smaller apartment, an assisted living room or a family member's home. We are not in a hurry on these jobs. The family decides what goes, and we work at the pace that is comfortable for the person moving.

It helps to measure the new room first and pick the pieces that fit: the bed, a favorite chair, a dresser, the TV. We move those, set up the bed, put the furniture where it makes sense and hang a few pictures if you want. The goal is a room that feels like home on the first night.

What is not making the trip can be handled in the same visit. We can haul away the leftovers as junk removal or do a full cleanout of the house later, once the family has taken what they want.

Labor only movers for rental trucks and containers

Some people already have the truck. You rented a box truck, a moving container was dropped in the driveway, or you are driving your own things to another state. Labor only moving help means our crew does the heavy lifting and you handle the driving.

Loading a truck well is a skill. Heavy pieces go in first against the front wall, mattresses and tables stand on edge, boxes get stacked in tight tiers and the load gets strapped in sections so nothing shifts on the highway. Unloading is the same work in reverse, with every piece going to the right room.

  • Loading a rental truck or moving container
  • Unloading at the new place, including carrying up stairs
  • Moving furniture between rooms or floors in the same house
  • Taking apart and putting back together beds and tables

How much movers cost per hour and what changes the price of a local move

Local moves are usually billed by the hour for a set crew size. A bigger crew costs more per hour but often finishes faster, so the total can come out close or even lower. We will tell you what crew size makes sense for your place and why.

Beyond the size of the home, a few things move the number. Drive time between the two addresses matters, and so does traffic on I-95 and the Merritt Parkway at rush hour. Heavy items like a piano, safe or gun cabinet need extra hands. Furniture that has to be taken apart adds time. A home that is fully packed and labeled when the crew walks in goes much faster than one that is half packed.

Ask how the clock runs when you get any moving quote, including ours: when time starts, when it stops and how travel is counted. We put that in writing with your quote. The quote is free and you have it before any work starts, so you can compare it fairly.

How much to tip movers

Tipping movers is never required. Your quote is the price. That said, people often ask what is normal, so here is the general custom in the moving industry.

Many people tip each mover individually, based on how long the job took and how hard it was. A long day with stairs, heavy furniture or bad weather usually gets more than a short, easy move. Some people tip a little less for a quick job and more when the crew went out of their way. Handing it to each person directly at the end is common.

If you would rather not tip, that is fine. Cold water on a hot day or lunch on a long move is always appreciated, and so is a review if you were happy with the work.

Local Movers: common questions

How far ahead should I book movers?

For the end and start of the month, two to three weeks ahead is safer. Midweek and mid-month dates are easier to get. If your date is close, call anyway and we will see what we can do.

Do you move to and from New York?

Yes. We regularly work in Westchester County and the Bronx. Tell us both addresses and building rules, such as a required certificate of insurance or elevator booking, when you ask for a quote.

Do you provide boxes and packing?

Ask when you book. We wrap and protect furniture on every move. If you need help packing boxes or want materials, let us know so we can include it in the quote.

Can you move just one room or a few items?

Yes. Not every move is a whole house. We move a single bedroom, a few pieces to a new apartment, or furniture from a parent's home to yours. Send photos of the items and both addresses, and we will give you an upfront quote before we book the crew.

What should I have ready before the movers arrive?

Have boxes packed, taped and labeled by room. Empty dresser drawers of anything fragile or heavy. Set aside valuables, medication, documents and chargers to carry yourself. Reserve the elevator and parking if your building allows it. A ready home means the crew starts lifting right away and the clock is spent on moving.

Do you move on weekends?

Our regular hours are Monday to Friday, 8 to 5. Weekend moves are available by appointment. Saturdays at the end of the month go first, so call (475) 259-9687 as soon as you know your date.

Can you help me load a PODS or other moving container?

Yes. We load and unload moving containers and rental trucks as labor only help. Tell us the container size, where it is parked and how much is going in. We pack it tight and tie off the load in sections so things do not shift while it is in transit.

Tell us what needs to move. Get the price first.

Call or text photos and we will give you an upfront quote. No obligation.
